Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Intern

Position Description

The purpose of the position of the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Intern is to create a role that empowers a student passionate about social justice to make organizational changes through outreach initiatives. This intern will work with a Co-Executive Director as an advisor to plan S.M.A.R.T. goals for the seven branches of Slow Food UW (Café, FDN, South Madison, Sourcing, Communications, and Finance/Logistics) on a timeline of one semester. Ideally, the person entering this position has a previous and/or working experience with cultural competency in their personal life, the workplace, and/or a kitchen/restaurant setting.

Average Time Commitment

Five hours of branch communication and remote research. This is the first position of its kind at SFUW, therefore an average time commitment will be evaluated by the Intern at the end of their first semester for future semesters.

Outcomes

By providing a space for internal restructuring and accountability in existing projects, this Director will promote a more equitable and inclusive workplace to allow for a natural progression towards a more diverse demographic of interns. To achieve food and social justice goals, Slow Food UW should be a beacon of innovation by using the unique approach to fostering relationships by breaking bread with one another to set precedents for the new era of leadership. Diversity, equity, and inclusivity are imperative to building a new foundation that educates our peers about the systematic obstacles experienced by marginalized student groups.

Disclaimer: We are looking for someone who will help build the infrastructure for a DEI Director position after 1-2 semesters of outreach & restructuring done by the DEI Intern. The Intern position would transition into a Director position once future DEI projects have been initiated.
